The world gets smaller every day: borders open, migrants move, tourists travel. Diseases know no boundaries: consider the threat of Ebola or HIV. The urge for adequate local healthcare grows daily, for both the countries in need and for the sake of worldwide health. Global health doctors play an essential role in tackling health issues enhanced by migration and inequity in access to healthcare.
A dedicated group of members of the Dutch Society for Tropical Medicine (NVTG) has therefore launched the international campaign ‘Into the world’ to raise awareness for the role of Dutch medical doctors in Global health and Tropical Medicine and to secure the continuation of their postgraduate medical training. ‘Into the world’ requests your support in securing the knowledge and experience of these Dutch specialists and their contribution to both global and Dutch healthcare.
‘Into the world’ is an international awareness campaign for the work of global health doctors and their postgraduate training programme.
‘Into the world’ aims :
- Increasing awareness on the contribution of global health doctors.
- Gaining support amongst a wide audience for their work.
- Advocating sustainable funding sources for the specialization programme, to secure its future. 6 million euro per year is needed from the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.
The campaign includes a book with personal stories and perspectives on international health, a website, a symposium, a social media campaign, and fund-raising.
